While living in rustic cabins, they study the life cycle of owls, learn how to use a map, and acquire team-building skills that will last throughout their lives. Physical activities strengthen balance and gross motor skills. Math and science skills take on a new meaning because students study ecology, the habitats of birds, insects, reptiles and animals, as well as their habits and markings. Students identify footprints and skeletal remains of various wildlife, observe the cycle of life in the outdoors, and have fun too!
The purpose of Outdoor School is to create a unique opportunity for our students to experience and learn respect for nature, use science and math skills in ‘real world’ activities, and build self-esteem.
Outdoor School allows students to participate in a variety of adventurous challenges in the form of outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, canoeing, archery and group educational projects. Outdoor education draws upon the philosophy, theory, and practices of experiential education and environmental education.
